I took this photo on a deserted Chinatown street our first night of lockdown. Nearly a year later and San Francisco (like many cities) is still figuring out how best to safely navigate this pandemic. Hope emerges still from the resilience of communities picking up the broken pieces and building something stronger.

ESCAPISM, 2021

The stack of books by my bed piled high as I used reading to escape my quarantine reality and travel through others. Reading for pleasure or for personal growth exercises and expands my mind in ways binging shows and scrolling my phone does not. Book club moved to a digital format but still offers a monthly focused discussion and proof of life check in with friends.

SAY THEIR NAMES, 2020

This year, amidst a pandemic, people came together (with masks on) to protest the blatant systemic racism plaguing our country. I joined hundreds on the Golden Gate Bridge; uniting our voices for change. I acknowledge my white privilege and accept that to do nothing is to be complicit.

Flour became a scarce resource in the beginning of quarantine. I rejoiced the day I discovered a forgotten shelf of it at our corner liquor store. My anxiety calmed by the focus my sourdough starter and levain required.

All Bodies Rise was inspired by my last in-person studio yoga class of 2020. I wanted to capture the palpable energy and heat rising from our bodies as we moved together. A moment of connection I took for granted, an emotion I crave to feel again.
